I’m a systems thinker. That means I don’t just look at the moving parts of a business or learning programs on their own. It means I see what most other learning experts don’t: I’m all about seeing the big picture. Whether I’m designing a custom course, advising on a learning strategy, or delivering my own learning solutions, I bring a whole-picture perspective to every project. I build frameworks that connect the dots for learning, streamline your operations, and turn complex ideas into clear, actionable systems that actually work for your L&D business.

What drives a great educational experience?
As a life-long learner, I understand that learning experiences need to matter to the people having them. Without a connection or purpose, opportunities are lost to bring about change. I’ve seen what happens when learners don’t care about what’s in front of them. I’ve been that person myself. It’s hard to fake a connection to content or skills development when it just doesn’t matter to you. We need to find what matters. And build on that.
Education is at the root of all change.
From the first time I stood in front of a room teaching soldiers in the Canadian Armed Forces about tension pneumothorax, I was hooked. I didn’t know adult education was a thing back then, but I knew I loved it.
Fast forward 25 years, and I’m still doing what I love most: creating learning experiences that matter. Whether I’m sketching a course outline, designing a fully automated learning system, or delivering one of my signature training programs for education-based business owners, learning is both my life and my passion.
I live in beautiful Cape Breton, where the mountains meet the sea, and I’ve been running my own business for more than 10 years. From the smallest of towns in Eastern Canada, I’ve been able to make a big impact through online learning and development. I want to help my clients do the same: create impact that matters.
Why adult education?
When we build meaningful education experiences, we change the way people lead, work, communicate, and show up in the world. That kind of impact ripples through families, organizations, communities, and entire industries. I know this because I’ve seen it.
I do this work because I’ve seen what happens when education is designed with intention, when training is more than a checkbox, and when strategy and systems come together to support people, not overwhelm them. I’ve seen burnt-out teams find clarity. I’ve seen leaders reconnect with their purpose. And I’ve seen organizations finally get the results they’ve been chasing…all because the learning finally made sense.
For me, this isn’t just about designing courses or automating systems. It’s about helping people see the bigger picture. It’s about showing clients what’s possible when they stop chasing quick fixes and start investing in real change: learning that works.
I don’t just preach these philosophies: Everything I do is rooted in people, processes, programs and platforms that drive change.

About our history
Deveaux Learning Solutions (DLS) is the next evolution of over a decade of consulting, training, and instructional design experience under the banner of Heather Deveaux Instructional Design (HDID). What started as a one-woman consulting company helping entrepreneurs and organizations turn ideas into educational assets grew into a trusted name in curriculum development, learning systems, and training design around the world.
Founded in response to a clear gap in the market where too many subject matter experts lacked the structure to share their knowledge effectively, HDID built its reputation on practical, done-for-you solutions that delivered real results. From large-scale national learning programs to grassroots workshops, the focus has always been on clarity, simplicity, and impact.
In 2025, after years of consistent client delivery, multiple signature offers, and the development of a full-fledged training ecosystem, HDID was officially retired to make way for Deveaux Learning Solutions: a deeper, bolder, more experienced platform that reflects not just the work, but the vision behind it.
DLS continues to build on everything that came before, while carving out space for what’s next: certification and training for education-based entrepreneurs, systems for scaling organizations, and the kind of strategic advising and coaching that helps clients get out of the weeds and back into their zone of genius so they can teach others what they know.
A blast from the past
DevcoLearning.com: a nod to the family business
While Deveaux Learning Solutions is the official name of the business, I’ve aptly nicknamed it Devco. A combination of Deveaux and the word, “company” creates Devco. That just so happens to be the unofficial name of the regional mining company is my area that’s long since been retired. Why does that matter to me? Economic development, growth and change for one. And two, my dad was a miner who died in the mines. It’s a local nod that reminds me good things can come from places that have seen hard times.
About the human behind the work
When I’m not creating impactful learning solutions, you’ll find me adventuring through the mountains, reading a book or writing one. I might be renovating something in my house or planning a trip to somewhere new, or I could be hanging out with my son, talking about video games. Our lives influence our work, and I’ve worked hard to integrate both sides of the coin to live my best life.
